Rinse and ... Repeat?

"La de da, la de da." (That's me singing in the shower--very badly)

"Gracie," I say in my mind.

"Don't call me Gracie."

"Sorry, I mean Grace. Why are you so surly? Is it because of your mom?"

"Ya think?"

"So that's it? Your mom?"

"There's more."

"What though?"

"Figure it out."

"I'm trying to. And what about IK, why are you always so happy when he's around?"

"He's funny."

"He is pretty funny. But there has to be more...hmm," I finish rinsing my hair and turn off the water. I wrap my hair in a towel and start to step out of the shower.

Did I wash my hair, I wonder. I don't think I washed my hair...did I? With a sigh I shut the shower door, turn back on the water and wash my hair.

So either I have really clean hair today or once washed hair, I still don't remember. (And please don't pay attention to the fact that I didn't wash my hair until noon)

Don't you love it when your characters are talking so loud that you can't think of anything else? I better go write.

  1. Welcome home!

I think I've done this before.

  3. lol! I've had this exact thing happen. My mind will be so busy in the shower (because for some reason the shower is a BIG "think-about-book" time) that I will be totally unsure whether I even washed myself, or whether I just stood there under the water with a glazed look in my eyes.

  4. Britten, thanks. I'm glad to be home. Except for the fact that my house is a mess and I don't want to clean it. But what's new?

    Joanne, I am. Thanks.

Renee, the shower seems like one of the few refuges left with kids around, doesn't it? I wonder how often I haven't washed my hair and didn't even realize it.

  5. Oh man, that's awesome. At least you are safe and at home when you wander.

My "zone out" place? The car. Yeah, not good. I pass exits, forget where I'm driving, and get out of the car wondering how I even got there...

  6. It's the water, it frees your subconscious. What I want is a waterproof recorder so I don't lose the wonderful thoughts and bits of dialogue that come to me in the shower ... or hey, you think it would work to hot-glue a Doodle Pro to the wall?

The second best place for me is the car, which is far more dangerous place to zone out than the shower ... yikes!

  7. Nat, (and Linda) the car is definitely a "zone out" place for me too. I've been trying to listen to music to drown out the voices so that I don't do exactly what you just described.

Linda, hot glue in the shower ... hmm, I don't know if it would work. :) I like the idea though. We do need a water proof something. You invent it, I'll buy it. :)

  8. Now that I know what your new picture is for, I love it even more. My mind has been wandering to Ice and IK. :) I love it when you get a new idea!

  9. I'm glad we had a chance to talk about it today. Because after talking to you for an hour about it and then the shower incident, I was able to totally immerse myself in fairies today. It's flowing well. I'm finally on a roll with it again. I think I just had to purge my mind of IK before I could fully concentrate on Thad. I'm sensing maybe another week before I'm done. Yay! Maybe we'll be reading each other's books at the same time. That would be AWESOME.

  10. hahaahH! Oh my gosh! This is SO my life you have no idea! LOL! I can't even begin to tell you how loud I keep the radio on in the car now so I can talk to my characters and my kids not think I'm completely crazy. And oh yeah, the noon shower--not sure if I've washed my hair--yeah, been there done that! LOL!
