Wednesday Reviews

This was another book I got at the 70% off sale. I might not have picked it up otherwise because it's not a YA (which seems like what I've been reading lately) and I'm usually not one for digging through the stacks to find "rare gems". But the shelves were close to empty and it was in the fantasy section. I do enjoy a good fantasy. So after reading the back, I thought, why not? And I was very pleasantly surprised. This story is like Jane Austen meets Brandon Sanderson. In other words, throw some magical powers into Pride and Prejudice and you have this book.

For those of you spoiled (like I am) by the "straight to the action/dialogue" feeling of young adult, this might seem a little slow for you. But if you enjoy a detailed world and eccentric characters, plus some romance, you'll love this book.

  1. It sounds interesting, Kasie. I just may have to give it a look-see. :-)

  2. Sounds interesting. I adore Brandon Sanderson, but I'm not much of a Jane Austen fan. Like, at all.

  4. I just read this a few weeks ago. I'm not a big fantasy fan, but I like Jane Eyre and P&P. And I liked it. Didn't LOVE it, probably won't read the rest of the trilogy, but it was still good. I think the author created an enjoyable fantasy world. Also it bothered me that I didn't know if the author was a man or woman. Do you know?

  5. Gosh. I'm totally spoiled from reading middle grade and Young Adult. Adult novels read pretty slow. I did get through the Time Traveler's wife though. Over a few months. :)

  6. Shannon, you totally should.

Elana, I would say it's more Jane than Brandon, so if you don't like Jane, then you wouldn't like this. :)

  7. Kath, if you've been debating on it for a while, just make the plunge. :)

Heather, I have no idea if it was written by a man or a woman. I just assumed a woman because....well, I don't know why, but it didn't bother me until you mentioned it. :)

Pauling, I know, right? I really am spoiled by YA. Everything happens at a much faster pace. BTW, do you have a blog? I keep trying to go to yours but can't.

  12. I was about to buy this book and then I saw the look on the lady's face and her eyes were 50% too "wanton" for me so I put it down.
