I love Russia

Things I know about Russia:

It's very big.

It's very cold.

It's very beautiful.

Anna Kournikova is from there.

It is where Sylvester Stallone in Rocky IV had to fight that really big Russian guy. The best Rocky fight ever.

And......

My book will be available there within 18 months!

Things I want to know about Russia:

Everything else!

So help me out. What do you know about Russia?

When I started this journey to publication, my dream was to see my book in print. I never even thought to dream of seeing my book printed in other languages. So when my agent told me that a Russian publisher--AST--made an early offer, I was surprised. I always knew selling in other countries was a possibility, I just thought it would happen later or to someone else. I am so excited!

  1. Yay! Congratulations!
    Things I know about Russia:
    There's vodka.
    There are matryoshka (nesting) dolls.
The tops of some of their buildings look like that flavor-swirled soft-serve.
Lots of other things that are probably myths or stereotypes or both.

    Congrats, again!

  2. Three more things about Russia:

They developed a spy space station almost identical to the US's spy space station.

When Stalin had the road across Siberia constructed, his admin used political prisoners and buried their bodies in the road (it is called the Road of Bones).

In Tunguska a comet exploded near the surface of the planet causing massive destruction. It is considered the biggest earthly encounter with a space object in living history.

Rena, Wow, those are some interesting facts. I had no idea. See, I feel smarter already. :)

  4. Na zdorovye!

(Are you impressed with my Russian???)

(I learned it from Fiddler on the Roof.)

SO excited for you, Kasie! This is going to be the best thing to hit Russia since democracy! ;)

  5. My impressions of Russia are taken from Anna Karenina, Dr. Zhivago (book and movie) and Crime and Punishment.

So, in my mind, it is a cold, war-torn and incredibly sad place where people are prone to tragic love affairs.

I'm sure it's not really like that, though. ;)

  6. Also, did you really publish this last Friday?? I swear I only noticed it today.

  7. Renee, lol You're funny. And no, I published it today, I was just drafting it Friday so yeah, I changed it. Thanks for noticing.

Cynthia, Ha! That's where I've learned all my facts on Russia too. Books and movies. So I'm sure I have everything all wrong. :)

  11. Chantele, Thanks. And yes and no to your question. It was always going to be that winter, but at first it was December 2012 and now it's looking more like January 2013. So we'll see. It might get changed again in a few months. :)

Patti, I'm still surprised by the one. :) Thanks.

  14. Monica, Ha! You should've claimed it. You should've said, 'Well, yes, who *doesn't* know Russian?' :) And I translated it. :) Thank you, again. In Russian.

  15. My husband's cousin went there on his "two year service project" and he just moved back there for a high level commercial real estate investment firm for work. So if you have any questions, I can pass them along to him. I personally know very little, except about Anastasia. I know a little bit about that whole story. ;)

  16. Oh, and hello.... CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  17. Woohoo!!! How awesome is that! Pretty darn awesome.

Russia has those cool nesting dolls.

  18. Sara, I love Anastasia. :) And now I know who to ask if I have any questions, your friend's brother's uncle's cousin. :)

    Linda, Thanks so much.

Ruth, I'm pretty excited. And I don't have any of those dolls. Maybe I need to buy some in honor of this news. :)

  20. Okay, are you prepared, because you should take notes on this. I'm sure it is gold. Ahem...

    ~ Royal families get cursed.
~ It is very cold and you get many chances to wear extremely fashionable scarves.
~ Princesses wander off, but don't worry because they are saved by dashing rogues who sound surprisingly similar to John Cusack.
~ Little talking bats may seem bad at first, but they are really good.
~ Never trust a guy who lives at the bottom of an ocean, especially if his head sometimes falls off.
~ Russian people LOVE the Moulin Rouge...because sometimes they go there...to dance, of course.
~ Redheads are beloved by them.
~ Knowing about the previous point as well as the fact that they are the first foreign rights sale for PIVOT POINT, I deduce that they are all well above average intelligence.

See? Don't you feel educated now? For future reference, you can watch the cartoon of Anastasia and you'll be all caught up. ;-)

    P.S. ~^~*~^~*CONGRATULATIONS!!!*~^~*~^~

  24. Donna, Isn't the guy who wrote Crime and Punishment also Russian?? I just thought of that. Not a huge fan of that book. It made me sick to my stomach. But you're right, they have the coolest buildings.

Kimberly, Yeah, I have this crazy agent, you may know her. :) Love her. And I have never seen WHITE NIGHTS. Guess I better. :)

Shallee, It is exciting. Your comment actually made that sink in a little. Crazy. :)

Jenilyn, Thanks, lady. :) I'm excited. Are you going to LTUE this year? Maybe I'll see you there.

  25. Congrats, Congrats, Kasie!!! That's wonderful news! And you know, if you took on The Soviet Union, you've got the KGB at your service. ;) I always knew there was dark & twisty within you!

  26. Isn't it a business expense and tax deductible to do book signings in Russia? You can learn new facts for yourself!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yay! Congratulations and even though I am so excited for you, alas, I know zip, zero, zilch about Russia. I suppose you may have to pay them a visit. Or at least go to a Russian restaurant and eat there. Something.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Laura, Ha! Was that in my contract? What a great perk. :)

Mary, what an excellent idea! I'll have to give that excuse to my husband. :)

Nichole, lol You know as much as I do. And yes, I should go to a Russian restaurant or something. I wonder if we have one here.....

  29. I'm late to the game, aren't I? But it's because I always want the last say. I loved Russia. I visited St. Petersburg a couple of years ago on my cruise. AND it plays a small role in my book, esp the Romanovs. So I've been reading about them lately.

That's really exciting. Between the U.S. and Russia you have about a quarter of the planet.

  30. Congratulations, Kasie!
AST is one of the most poweful publishers here (well, yeah, I'm from Russia). I'm sure your book will find the readers!
Russia is big, but it's not always cold here as everybody is used to think :-P

Sorry, for the belated post, but I've just discovered your blog and couldn't resist to leave a note here.

  31. Thanks, T!! It's so nice to have someone who actually lives in Russia stop by. And it's not always cold in Russia???!!!!??? That I did not know. See, this is stuff I need to know. Looks like I'll have to visit. :)
