The winner of POSSESSION from my contest last week is Heather!! Yay! (Heather, I'll get that to you soon)
I love to read. Obviously. And I consider a book a successful read if I turn the last page, sigh with contentment, and place it on my shelf. This makes me happy. But rare is the book that has me wishing, even for days after, that I could continue reading it. That there were more pages. Usually, by the time a book is over, I'm ready for it to be over. And that's not saying I didn't enjoy it. I'm just ready for my contented sigh and a new world/story to explore. So this long holiday weekend, I was able to read two books and both of them (BOTH of them) have me passing them on my night table wishing I hadn't read the last page. Wishing I could hang out with the characters for several more chapters.
Those books are: BITTERBLUE by Kristen Cashore and THE SCORPIO RACES by Maggie Stiefvater
I adored these books. Why did I read them so fast? I want to read them longer. So I want to know books that made you feel this way because I need some new reads.
Okay..are you read for my fast reads as of late? (I just took out 7 books from the library and I've already 4. Talk to me about fast reads...I am yo lady!)ReplyDelete

Excellent suggestions, Rachel. I love adding books to my wish list. :)Delete
I'm glad you felt that way about Bitterblue, I'm about to start reading it now. I enjoyed Pandemonium - the sequel to Delirium actually I really like Lauren Oliver's writing. When I finished reading How to Save a Life by Sara Zarr I really wanted more. The Girl of Fire and Thorns - loved it definitely want more. Blood Red Road was really good too.ReplyDelete
You will love it, Mary! And thanks for the suggestions. I haven't read Delirium or Pandemonium yet so I better add those to my list. :)Delete
I read The Scorpio Races earlier this year and loved it, I just love Maggie Stiefvater's anything (books, music, art)! She is one talented human being. This book is my pick for Book Club later this year.ReplyDelete
One book that I still think about is Chime by Franny Billingsley, it took me a while to warm to the MC, but when I did, I adored her!
Now, because I'm Australian, I thought I would suggest some Aussie reads that I've loved too, the most recent one was On The Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta, it's mystery intrigued me, and totally kept me reading to the last page, wanting to finally put all the pieces of the puzzle together, amazing!
The other Aussie author is Kate Morton's The Forgotten Garden, that too is an amazing mystery novel, where it's not until the last that you start to put the puzzle pieces together (you think you have it at some point in the book, and then Kate totally flips that on it's head - and everything really pulls together), loved it! Still trying to find time to read her other books... just too many books to choose from at the moment!
Have you read Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series? I push these books all the time--they are so good! They are also long--big, fat, juicy reads--so I guarantee you won't blow through them too fast.ReplyDelete
I just read both of those this month, too, and I felt just the same. Amazing writing. Reading books that good make me wish I were as talented as they are.ReplyDelete
I also just finished Insurgent. I also loved it--very different type of book, but sucked me right in. Daughter of Smoke and Bone was another one that has prose so amazing I just want to eat it.
Two more books to add to my list. You know I felt that way about Rachel Hawkins HEX HALL series. :) Of course, I got those from your recommendations also. Maybe I'll only read books you recommend from here on out. This sounds like an excellent plan...ReplyDelete
Interesting! I've heard mixed things about BITTERBLUE, so I'm glad to hear you liked it. I'll admit I tried The Scorpio Races... and put it down a couple chapters in and haven't been back! Yikes. I'll need to pick it up again.ReplyDelete
You must read BEING FRIENDS WITH BOYS. It's superb.
Yay!! Are you serious?? I never win anything and winning a new read is double exciting!! Also, thanks for the two new book suggestions. I can't think of any that I've loved loved lately except for yours. And I'm totally not just buttering you up! HahaReplyDelete
Ah, Heather, your flattery will get you everywhere. :) I'll get that book to you soon.Delete
