No More Vacation

I'm officially home. Although it was way too cold and snowy for my warm blood, I had a great time. I love my family. I married into the best family ever. And it's constantly growing. On Christmas day, my niece had a baby (congrats, Kaylie) which means I'm a great Aunt (well, I was already a great aunt, but now I have the title to prove it).

I know I said while I was out of town that I wouldn't blog, but I obviously couldn't keep myself away from you all. Now that I'm home, I've discovered something: When I take a vacation from writing the only thing it does is fill my head with new ideas. New ideas equals more work. So no more vacation for me. Back to constantly thinking about the book I'm writing so that new characters can't creep their way into my mind. But for the record, I started a new book today, just to get the idea that came to me on vacation out of my brain so that I can finish my WIP, which is halfway done.

Back to work for me. Yay! I can't wait until agents are back to work too so that I can get some more rejections. I'm ready to send out my new and improved query.

  1. ACK! I know exactly what you mean! I try as hard as I can to write my current book when the next starts talking to me! AHHHHH! I feel like I'm going crazy most of the time. I mean right now I'm trying to finish rewriting book two, for my agent.. edit book four so my agent to read it and VOW not to think about book three at the moment... because once the new year starts, I'm hoping to work with an editor on revisions for book one!!!! All the while the next book Mansfield Ranch is starting to talk to me! AHHH! I can't take it! Stop the madness! LOL! I mean, honestly, how much fun can a girl take in a week anyway???

  2. Kasie, I believe there is a misprint in your post. I think it should say you can't wait for agents to return so you can get REQUESTS FOR MATERIAL with your new query! Positive thinking, always! :)

  4. I can't believe you're a great aunt. My oldest nephew is seven! I can't wait to hear your new idea, but only if it doesn't interfere with fairies, which I'm totally dying to read!

  5. You know what is so funny. Each of the above comments is a response to a different part of my post. If you just read the comments you would think each of you was reading a different post. Which made me think two things. The first thought was: Wow, I have four completely different ideas in my post. And the second: That is so cool that I got a response to each of those ideas. So anyway, I'm going to respond now. Here I go. :)

Jenni, I'm glad you understand. Most of the time I feel crazy, but then I get online and you guys make me feel better about myself because you know what I'm talking about. I only wish I had the same problem you did--an agent demanding things. :) Soon.

Joanne, you're right, I need to get better about positive thinking. Agents are definitely going to start requesting material once I get my new and improved query out there, I can't wait! :)

Angie, all my books are YA fantasy. My WIP is about fairies, my completed series are sort of about fairytales and sort of not (if that made any sense, which I'm sure it didn't). And my incubating book is about snow, lots and lots of snow. :) BTW, I just took your quiz, I'm a major blogaholic.

Candi, I know, I'm a great aunt. I hardly believe it myself. And my other niece told us she was pregnant too while we were there, which means I'm going to be a great aunt twice! And in response to the other part of your comment, yes, my new idea totally interferes with fairies. I stayed up last night working on it when I should've been working on fairies. Don't worry, once I get the initial ideas out of my head I will be back to work. I'm anxious to finish.

  6. Yes, I too am heaving a sigh of relief. Chaos is over. Chores can now be caught up on. And stories can be once again given the attention they have been screaming for. :)

  7. Cool picture on the top of your blog. Is it related to fairies or is it something from your new idea?

  8. Since others wrote on different subjects from your post, I'm going to write about a different subject not from your post.
My question is, did you drive to Utah with four kids? Or is that a nightmare I had about someone else? If so, how long does it take to drive to Utah with 4 kids? And how did you survive?

  9. Renee, I know. I'm so happy.

Candi, it has to do with my new story. te he (but, you'll be happy to know that I spent yesterday working on fairies)

Tricia, it was my nightmare. Always my nightmare. We used to just drive straight there and depending on the weather and the traffic and how many potty breaks we needed it would take about 14 hours. A couple years ago though, my sister moved to Las Vegas, which is exactly half way to our destination. So, now we stop at my sister hotel and stay one night. It makes the drive so much more enjoyable when you only have to drive 7 hours in one day (AAAAHHHHH!!!! I'm so glad we're done driving).

  10. Oh yeah, and Tricia, we have a DVD player in our van. Hallelujah! The best thing ever invented.

  12. Paul, isn't it? I wish I could say that I took it (I love to take pics) but I didn't. It's just a little inspiration for my new idea that came to me while we spent a week in ice and snow.
