Maddeningly Unhelpful Monday--Imprinting

I have so much fun news to share.......soon. I know, so mean.

In the meantime, a duck story.

Much like the tragic imprinting of Jacob on Renesmee, we had a duck imprint on our minivan. It all started when a duckling showed up in our pond, parent-free. The poor duck was all alone. Of course, my kids took pity. We started feeding it and giving it a warm garage to sleep in at night. This duck now loves us. It also really loves our van. When we try to go ANYWHERE, the duck comes running after our van, right under our van to be more specific. It's a suicidal duck. So, we have to climb out of the van, put the duck back in the pond and run for the car. This baby duck may not know how to fly, but have you ever seen how fast a duckling can run? Seriously fast. There it is again, right under the car. I'm sure the neighbors find this game amusing.

Today, I will give the duck a good talking to, the same talk I would've liked to give Jacob. It will go something like this: Imprinting is a serious business. Imprinting on the wrong thing can be both disturbing and a death sentence. Please pick something else to imprint on. I hope that unlike Jacob, this duck is reasonable.

(P.S. I'm not hating on Twilight. I actually loved those books.)

Here is a picture of our duck and my daughter's boots. Isn't it cute? Tell me you wouldn't have started feeding this little guy.

  2. Awwww, what a cutie!

I won't tell my six-year-old daughter this story because she would be too jealous, and probably cry because we don't have a baby duck following our car.

  3. I hope I'm not exposing myself as a numbskull by not knowing this but who is Jacob and Renesmee? I'm so scared it's common knowledge--like Superbowl--that I'd beg you to delete this comment if it is.

That said, I love the little ducky. We get duckies in our pool every spring and I run out to feed them. My husband runs them off, says they poop in the pool. So?

  4. Ahh, yes. The duck. I've heard many episodes of the Duck Saga. I still have nightmares of the day you thought you'd found the duck's parents and there was much celebration, but alas, it was not to be.

You should write a duck book.

  6. I probably would have fed it but I might also have taken it to a friend's farm where it could live in their pond with other ducks and no cars nearby.
    It is too cute.

  9. Adorable as all get out. At this rate when it gets big enough it'll be hopping in the van for a ride, before you can close the door. (Hugs)Indigo

  10. I can't handle it! I would bring that creature into the house.

Stupid Jacob. It was a dumb imprint purely because of the name: Renesmee? Really? REALLY?

  12. A DUCK! ha, i love ducks. well, not like, LOVE, but you get the idea. i actually find it hilarious that a duck should imprint...on a car. didnt know stuff like that could happen! it's still less creepy than a 17/18 y.o. imprinting on a BABY, ahem. :D

  14. That duck is so adorable! Is it too late to train it like what Anna Paquin did in "Fly Away Home"? I also have a friend who keeps ducks. So you can have them as a pet.

  15. Along with my desperate need of a beagle and a monkey, I must get a duckling now. Oh my gosh, that little suicidal duckling is so darn cute I can't even stand it. It's like the little girl on Despicable Me with the fluffy unicorn. The ducky needs to imprint on something other than the van. Perhaps, the duckling has imprinted upon you and your family. When you leave it is scared you won't come back, thus the suicidal tendencies. Enjoy the duckling.
